Ferrum Forge: magnificent mid-tech pocket knives
Ferrum Forge Knife Works has a great reputation in the knife world. The pocket knives that the brothers Elliot and Chris Williamson make are downright fantastic. Really everything checks out, from the blade down to the smallest details. Completely made in-house with the best materials. These are pocket knives for and by pure lovers!
The history of Ferrum Forge
The American Ferrum Forge was founded in 2009. The story, however, begins much earlier, when the young Elliot Williamson held a knife from his grandfather for the first time. He fell in love right away and that feeling grew over the years. The only drawback was that the hobby was becoming more and more expensive. Elliot wondered why some knives should cost a small fortune and goes out to investigate. He finds a world full of knife makers that make a living from building custom knives. He is immediately impressed by big names like Jay Fisher and Don Fogg.
Not only does he get an answer to the question why some knives are so expensive, he also can’t stop the feeling of wanting to make knives himself. His brother Chris joins him and together they begin making knives in a small garage. Very cool knives. Hand-milled, hand-carved, hand-assembled. They gain attention from the outside world, quickly making the small garage unsuitable.
Art in pocket knife-form
The techniques involved with producing knives have changed. Cutting happens a with laser or a water-jet instead of the old band saw. The milling is done partly computer-controlled (CNC), and partly by hand. Each knife is designed and produced in-house. With the exception of the screws for the lockbar-insert, they make everything their selves, all from superior materials. For the design, they sometimes do collaborations, with for example Les George or Michal Gavac. It results in pocket knives that are small art pieces on their own, made of an exceptionally high level. We love them!
