Flashlights selected by lumens: for each purpose the right amount of light
How many lumens do I need? It is the first question often asked when looking for a good flashlight. After all, the more lumens, the better. Right? You need to know that the amount of lumens doesn't say anything about the beam distance of the light. Two flashlights with the same amount of lumen do not have to be as bright or shine as far. Today the most used LED lights produce more than enough lumen for most tasks in and around the house and at the campsite. As soon as you are looking for an extreme amount of light the amount of lumen will be more important.
The amount of light modes is, however, something you need to take into account. Do you want to read a book at night without waking your partner? If so the light mode of 0.5 or 1 lumen is very practical. As soon as you want to light up something up close 1000 lumens will definitely blind you. In that case 100 or 200 lumens will be better. Many people use a flashlight while walking their dog. In that case 500 lumens will be more than enough. Are you looking for a flashlight for hunting purposes? Go with one that has more lumen. For outdoor sports activities a head torch may be a great solution. Enough light and always have your hands free.
