The Viper Dan 1 is a stylish friction folder with a deep-carry pocket clip. A friction folder is a pocket knife without a real lock. However, you can feel some resistance on the blade, which means that it won't just snap shut. You can open the knife easily with the front flipper. When opened, the flipper sits neatly on the back of the blade, exactly where you would keep your thumb. By pushing your thumb down, you keep the knife open while you use it. Friction folders are popular because they can be legally carried with you in the United Kingdom and Germany, among other places. Plus, it is of course a magnificent mechanism, which is appreciated by many knife enthusiasts.
The handle of this knife is made from Ziricote wood, a stunning wood with a recognisable dark grain and luxurious appearance. The blade is made from Böhler N690 steel. The spine of the blade is nicely rounded, which is typical of Italian pocket knives. You can carry the knife deep inside your pocket with the deep-carry pocket clip. This means that only the clip is visible, and not the end of the handle. Very discreet.
The Viper Dan is available in two different blade shapes: the Dan 1 has a drop point blade and the Dan 2 has a sheepsfoot blade, also called a Wharncliffe.

I bought this in addition to the micarta-handled version. The handle on this model is less grippy than the micarta version, but the wood handle is superb, and I fully expected the grip to be less tactical (it is a smart knife, it would pain me to scratch it!). the factory edge was good and sharp, not a thing out of place on the knife and the non-locking blade still clicks firmly into place giving it a bit of safety for use. This is great for UK legal carry. worth every penny
