This sharpening stone uses resin to bind the abrasives, in this case white aluminium oxide.  

It does not soak up water and requires frequent wetting, but it can tailor the wear so the binder and abrasives wear at the same rate.  

The stone doesn't produce much slurry, but cuts faster than other types.
It also produces a finish finer than the grit size would indicate, as the binder is slightly flexible allowing for a finer scratch pattern.  
  


These stone works best on harder types of steel  

Splash with water before and during sharpening, do not soak or store in water.  
  

**About grit sizes**  

Whetstones come in various grit sizes. The higher the number, the finer the grit. A finer grit results in a sharper knife. Sharpening a really dull knife on a fine grit will take much time, so you will need to treat it on a coarser grit first.  
  



* 120 - 600: Appropriate when real dull knives need to be brought back in the right shape

* 800 - 1,000: Appropriate to sharpen knives that were already in a reasonable state

* 2,000 - 3,000: For a result sharper than most knives are when they leave the factory

* 5,000 - 12,000: To polish the knife and get a razor sharp edge

Net als de 5000 korrel Naniwa Super Watersteen, is dit ook een erg fijne steen om je mes goed scherp te krijgen.
Zelf gebruik ik deze vlak voor ik over ga op de 5000.

Ik ben er zeer tevreden mee.
Japanse waterstenen zijn sowieso een ZEER goede investering als je het goed scherp maken van je messen waardeert.. 

un peu "difficile" à utiliser pour moi, qui débute dans l'affitage et n'ai aucune expérience. J'ai quand même obtenu un tranchant sur des couteaux, dont deux très émoussés. Je suis par conséquent satisfaite de mon achat. 

Pierre de bonne facture. Pour une pierre à eau on pourrait s'atetndre à ce que les pieds en caoutchouc soit plus adhérents ...

Ik heb deze steen nu een paar weken en het slijpen erop gaat steeds beter. De messen die hier vanaf komen zijn al redelijk scherp. De snede is nog wel wat grof, maar daarvoor heb je een fijnere korrel nodig. De steen is ook lekker groot en hij produceert een mooi geluid. Zeker een aanrader.

Les patins n’adhère pas une fois mouillé ou peut, il sont trop dur. Ce qui n'est pas pratique du tout lors de l'aiguisage. Si les patins avaient été de qualité j'aurais mis 10.
