The Spyderco Native 5 has been around since 1997 and has been one of the best-selling Spyderco knives. It is a luxurious version of the good old Native 5. The solid lock is a great feature of the Native 5. The spring of the back-lock helps it to open smoothly, but also locks the blade in opened position. The S30V-steel blade has a full-flat grind. This means the blade is sharpened from the back to the edge evenly.

Opening the Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight C41PBK5 Black FRN, pocket knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb hole. Once opened, the sturdy back lock ensures that the blade is locked and won't accidentally close during use. The back-lock mechanism is one of the oldest yet strongest locking mechanisms. The combination of thumb hole and back lock makes this knife easy to use by both left-handed and right-handed people.



## Blade made of CPM S30V steel
The blade of this Spyderco Lightweight, Native is made of CPM S30V steel. This is a premium type of stainless steel made by Crucible Industries in the US. S30V retains its sharpness well and is very corrosion resistant. Moreover, with the right tools, it is also easy to sharpen yourself.

Several leading figures in the knife world collaborated on the development of CPM S30V. Including knife makers like Chris Reeve, Sal Glesser, Ernest Emerson, Tony Marfione, Phil Wilson, Bill Harsey, Mike Jones, Steve Ingrim, Tom Mayo, Jerry Hossom and Paul Bos.



The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.



## Handle made of FRN

The handle of the Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight C41PBK5 Black FRN, pocket knife is made of FRN and measures 10.2 cm in length. FRN stands for *Fibre-Reinforced Nylon*. That makes it a type of plastic made from nylon, and reinforced with glass fibres for additional strength and durability. FRN is also known as GFN.

Sal Glesser is the legendary founder of Spyderco. Together with his wife Gail, he founded this iconic knife brand. He is the inventor of the round thumb hole and many more innovations. ## Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
