Everything about the Japanese Higo no Kami pocket knife emanates tradition. In the past everyone in Japan, including school children, used to carry a knife like this. The Higo pocket knife was used to sharpen pencils and for many other tasks. 


The blade is easy to open with the 'chikiri' (the lever at the end of the blade). As is common for this type of knife, it doesn't have a lock and the blade completely disappears inside the handle when closed. 


## Carbon steel


Steel with a high concentration of carbon. It is very shock-resistant and also very tough. Some maintenance is required to keep the blade sharp, though. Fortunately, it's a very easy type of steel to sharpen. However, this steel is not corrosion-resistant.

Beautiful pocket knife and sharp as well perfect little knife 

Große, einfache und sehr scharfe Klinge. Ein schönes traditionelles Werkzeug für den Gebrauch.

Heerlijk mes. Goed scherp bij aankomst maar zo scherp als een scheermes te krijgen na een half uurte slijpen.
Ik vond hem alleen net te groot om echt als zakmes te gebruiken en heb daarom een net iets kleinere gekocht.
Maar deze zit in mijn tas voor als ik hem nodig heb.

Leuk zakmes, lekker scherp, deze had ik nog niet in mijn verzameling.

Grappig mes, met in Japanse tekens de toepasselijke tekst "Vanuit Higonokami" gegraveerd in het heft. Is scherp maar moet wel onderhouden worden om het scherp te houden als je wat steviger snijwerk hebt gedaan. Is ook niet gemaakt voor stevig snijwerk, want dan ligt het heft niet heel comfortabel in je hand (dun). Maar zeker leuk voor onderweg, appeltje schillen, broodje snijden, touwtje inkorten ed.
