Spyderco Delica 4 ZDP-189 is manufactured from an exceptional type of steel, namely, ZDP-189 steel. This powdered steel with its high carbon content (3%) boasts a hardness of as much as 64 HRC, which is incredibly hard. Its blade also retains its edge extremely well. The only downside of this type of steel is that it is more difficult to sharpen. However, once it has been sharpened, its edge can be razor-sharp.  
  

It features 'racing green' FRN handles with textured liners, which guarantee durability and strength without making the knife too heavy.   
  

Its sturdy back lock system ensures that the knife is safe to use.

Na lang zoeken naar het 'perfecte' EDC mes ben ik bij de Spyderco Delica uitgekomen. Naar volle tevredenheid. Licht van gewicht en makkelijk op te bergen met de clip. Er was voor mijn aankoop nog de keuze uit VG10 en het hardere ZDP-189 staal van dit mes. Ik ben uiteindelijk dus voor ZDP-189 gegaan omdat het mes dan ook langer scherp blijft. Op internetfora wordt dit staal veel besproken. Er wordt daar soms genoemd dat het snel zou roesten (vlekken op het staal), daar heb ik nog niks van gemerkt. Nu moet ik zeggen dat ik het mes ook goed onderhoud en regelmatig van wat Ballistol olie voorzie. Een ander probleem zou zijn dat het staal moeilijk te slijpen is. Ik slijp echter met diamantstenen en dan gaat het prima. Met een slijpsysteem (zoals de Edge Pro, die ik naar volle tevredenheid gebruik) krijg je het staal makkelijk en snel vlijmscherp. ZDP-189 is wel een staal waar je niet mee moet gaan hakken of voor wat ruiger werk met houtsnijden, dan is er wat kans op (micro)chipping vanwege de hoge hardheid. Kies in dat geval voor VG10 staal. ZDP-189 is echt een staalsoort voor heel veel snijwerk in niet al te harde materialen. De donkergroene kleur van het mes is mooi en tijdloos en hij ligt uitstekend in de hand. Door de scherpe punt handig voor snijden van kartonnen dozen, je  steekt het lemmet er makkelijk in. Na wat oefenen is het mes snel met één hand te openen en ook te sluiten. Het sluiten gaat dan in twee bewegingen (met duim mes via backlock loszetten en daarna met duim of wijsvinger sluiten). De kwaliteit van het mes is echt uitstekend, heel solide gebouwd, maar de prijs is wel iets aan de pittige kant, aangezien hij in de US zo'n 100 dollar kost. Vandaar bij prijs-kwaliteitverhouding 4 sterren. Maar als je op zoek bent naar een uitstekend EDC mes, dan is dit een hele goede keuze. Een topmes.

Mooi EDC-knife, heft in donker groen...en scherp afgeleverd, kortom weer een prachtige Spyderco in de pocket!
