The **Bark River Bravo 1 LT CPM 3V, Desert Ironwood** was designed for military use, specifically for the United States' Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became clear that this knife could do so much more. Today, the Bravo 1 is a beloved knife amongst bushcraft enthusiasts and hunters. It has a solid construction, with enough blade thickness for heavy-duty tasks. Perfect for woodworking, gutting game and many other outdoor tasks.

## Bark River Bravo 1 CPM 3V

The blade is made from CPM 3V-steel. This is a type of tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. As such, it won't break and will retain its sharpness well. You do need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean the knife after use and occasionally apply a bit of oil to keep it in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).

On the spine of the blade you find the so-called ramp. This is a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively, the ramp appears to be a little too far back for natural placement of the thumb. However, you are meant to place your thumb just in front of the ramp. This makes it easier to apply force during tasks that require greater precision. The serrated edge of the ramp is shaped in such a way that producing sparks with a firesteel becomes a piece of cake.

The handle is made from Desert Ironwood. This is a type of hardwood mainly found in the United States and Mexico. It has a distinctive colour and a beautiful grain. This great type of wood makes the knife look extra luxurious.

The Bark River Bravo 1 comes with a leather belt sheath that offers many different carrying options. It is possible that the leather loop with press stud that keeps the knife in the sheath is a little difficult to close. This is because it was designed to keep its form throughout time which is why at first it might feel a little too tight. Fortunately this will stretch out on its own, even though a couple drops of water could also help the leather along a bit.

Bark River Knives makes all of their knives almost entirely by hand. As a result, each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife will have a unique look.
