The Autine Varidots is a very robust, modest-sized axe. This axe is named after the ruler Varidots who ruled over the Autine region in the 12th and 13nd century. The Varidots axe is an exact copy of an axe that was found at a dig site around the Sarumkalns castle.
We rarely come across axes that are as perfect as this Autine Varidots. Compact but massive in terms of what it can do. This axe has a head that is thick enough for splitting work, an edge thin enough to produce kindle and it is heavy enough for the more demanding chopping tasks. With 11.1 cm the cutting edge is quite long for an axe this size. Simply a superior axe. Forged by hand in Latvia.
The axe head of the Autine Varidots is made from laminated steel. The cutting edge is made from instrument steel with a high carbon content. Hardened up to 59-60HRC, which is relatively hard for an axe. The core is enclosed by softer steel. This softer steel will absorb the blows so that the cutting edge can be a little harder. The edge itself is razor-sharp. You don't often come across an axe that is so sharp. The edge is polished as if it is the edge of an outdoor knife. And even in that class it will excel in terms of sharpness. Except for the polished edge the head is enhanced with a rough, brut de forge finish: unpolished.
At first glance it might look a little straightforward. However, when you take a closer look you will see the carefully placed curves that give the axe the ergonomics it requires.
The Autine Varidots comes with a simple leather sheath. The sheath protects the cutting edge. Or rather, with this razor-sharp edge it will protect you.
Autine by John Neeman.
Autine by John Neeman is John Neeman's baby. This master smith, also known from Neemantools, has years of experience when it comes to forging and creating stunning knives and axes. The best quality, at a custom level.
Please note: because of the handmade character of the axes subtle changes in terms of size and specifications can occasionally occur.
