The Bark River Bravo 1 LT is a lighter version of the Bravo 1. Originally this knife was designed for (para)military use, specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became evident that this knife can be used for so much more purposes. Throughout the years the Bravo 1 LT even became a popular knife amongst bushcrafters and hunters. It has a solid construction and a thick enough blade for heavy-duty tasks. At the same time it is light enough for hikes. An ideal knife you can use for many things.
The spine of the blade has been enhanced with the so-called ramp, a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively the ramp appears to be placed too far back in order to naturally place your thumb. However, you are meant to place your thumb at the front of the ramp. As such it will be lot easier to use more pressure during precision work. The serrated edge on the ramp makes creating sparks a whole lot easier when you use a firesteel.
This edition of the Bark River Bravo has a Full High Grind: the convex grind runs from the edge towards the spine of the blade. As a result it is an even better slicerthan the regular Bravo 1 LT.
The blade is made from Böhler Elmax steel. An extremely stainless type of steel which retains its sharpness well. It is the ultimate combination of the abrasion-resistance of carbon steel with the corrosion resistant aspect of a stainless type of steel. The edge has a convex grind which you can keep in great shape by stropping it.
The handle is made from Desert Ironwood. A type of hardwood often found in the United States and Mexico. Characterizing is the lovely colour with the rich patterns. This attractive type of wood makes the knife look extra luxurious.
The Bark River Bravo 1 LT comes with a leather belt sheath (max. belt width 8.0 cm). The sheath also has a small loop with room for a firesteel (max. diameter ~7.0 mm).
Bark River makes most of its knives by hand. As a result each knife is unique. Especially when you use natural materials the knife can sometimes look different than it does on the photograph. Something to keep in mind when you receive your knife! The model and type of material will, however, always be the same.
