The Bark River Bravo EDC is the compact version of the famous Bravo. In terms of shape, the knife is the same, only a little smaller. It's perfect for daily use, hence the addition of 'EDC' to the name. This stands for Every Day Carry. It is the ideal size for this purpose.
The spine of the blade has a ramp, which is a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively the ramp appears to be a little too far back for natural placement of the thumb. However, you're meant to place your thumb just in front of the ramp. This makes it easier to apply force during tasks that require greater precision. The serrated edge of the ramp is shaped to make it really easy to produce sparks with a firesteel.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel, a strong steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by stropping it.
The handle is made from a very unusual material: pine cone, cast in epoxy resin. This unique casting process ensures that no two knives made from this material are the same. It's also virtually impossible to make the left and right sides of the handle the same. The material can have natural imperfections, such as small holes and noticeable flaws. However, you forget all about those when you look at the material: it is truly spectacular.
The Bark River Bravo EDC comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it either upright (belt width up to 5.5 cm) or diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm).
Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
