This **Combekk 24 cm cast-iron frying pan** with two handles is very special and a Dutch product made from bicycle wrecks from Amsterdam! Sustainability at its best: bicycles that were, for instance, retrieved from canals are given a new purpose in the shape of these top-quality pans. Mixed with a harder type of steel the bicycle frames are the ideal material mix with exactly the right amount of hardness for a cast-iron pan.

The pans are made from old bridges, buildings, vehicles or, as in this case, even train tracks. Each pan has its own story: the origin of the material is cast on the base of the pan.

This is all possible thanks to the special melting furnace that is located in Doetinchem in the Achterhoek. ## Combekk: the Dutch Oven is back

. The name 'Dutch Oven' refers to an originally Dutch production technique. Combekk also uses this technique to produce all its pans. As such Combekk is the only manufacturer that actually produces its Dutch Oven pans in the Netherlands. Something to be proud of!

## Pans with no PFAS, PFOA or PTFE

The abbreviation PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. These are man-made substances that do not naturally occur in the environment. Some examples of PFAS are GenX, PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acids). PFAS is an umbrella term for all these substances, which are used in many products, including frying pans, grill pans and wok pans. PFAS have useful properties: among other things, they are repellent to water, grease and dirt. However, we now know that PFAS are harmful to health. 

Teflon is the commercial name for various plastic fluoropolymers, such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). PFAS is used to make these plastic fluoropolymers. Teflon provides the product with a water-repellent and dirt-repellent layer, and it is also heat-resistant. PTFE also allows two surfaces to slide over each other easily. That is why PTFE is found in pans with a non-stick coating. In other words: they're all the same thing. **This pan is free from PFAS, PFOA and PTFE**.
