Wear-resistant stones: no lapping necessary
The advantage of diamond sharpening stones is that they don't become hollow after use. As such you don't have to lap them. If you do wish to lap them use 60 grain silicon carbide sandpaper with a little bit of water on a flat surface.
Compared to sharpening on whetstones sharpening on a diamond-coated stone is a lot faster. Please note: the hard material does not ask for a rough treatment. It is not necessary to apply excessive force. It could really affect your knife.
Pre-sharpen diamond-coated stones
It is also good to know that a diamond-coated sharpening stone must be sharpened as well. At first they will have a rather aggressive effect. After sharpening five or 10 times a diamond stone will work best!
