I have two versions of this same knife. The original release was as shown in the photo here. If you look at the last photo, you can see that in the closed position the blade disappears completely into the handle. In practice that didn’t work out, because the tip of the blade made contact with the rear standoff, which led to damage to the edge just below the tip. Over time you could also see a shiny spot develop on the standoff where the blade was rubbing the coating. It’s something Extrema Ratio has had issues with before on the BF3 Dark Talon. There was also the problem, when closed, that the edge sat almost flush with the open back of the handle. So if you ran your finger along the spine of the closed knife, you could very easily cut yourself. It looks like Extrema Ratio tweaked the design in the meantime, because the second one I bought closes earlier. The internal stop pin appears to have been moved, as has the detent ball, so the blade no longer disappears all the way into the handle. Aesthetically that is of course less attractive than the original, but the upside is that the edge stays undamaged and your fingers are safe when the knife is closed. Beyond that, the knife feels like a proper Extrema Ratio folder. The same relatively soft detent and no ball bearings, but washers at the pivot. That gives the familiar Extrema Ratio feel that you either love or don’t. Lastly, it’s worth noting that it has a short sabre grind, which of course means the knife is very thick behind the edge. For that reason it is not a good slicer. Peeling an apple will be more like splitting an apple. All in all, the knife just has the X factor. As an EDC it’s not a standout because of the thick, narrow blade, but for some reason it’s just an appealing thing to look at and the design stands out from the rest. This has turned into quite a story, but I hope it helps.
