NiteCore EA81 LED-torch, AA-batteries
The NiteCore EA81 is a spotlight on AA batteries. This is ideal because these batteries are widely available. A light output of 2150 lumens on these batteries is virtually unprecedented. The Cree XHP50-LED offers a range of 462 metres according to the ANSI standard. However, the beam clearly shows a darker spot in the middle (also known as donut beam).
The side of the torch has a double switch: one for turning on/off and the other button for switching between the modes. Pressing this switches at the same time puts the torch in lockout position. This protects it from accidentally switching on when, for example, stowed in a bag. The switch also includes a blue LED that indicates the battery status.
The NiteCore EA81 works on 8 AA batteries. Alkaline, NiMH and lithium are suitable. 14500 (Li-ion) batteries do not work in the EA81. We recommend to use only NiMH batteries or lithium batteries. Our experience is that alkaline batteries leak faster than usual when they have to operate such a large light output. Damage caused by leaking batteries is not covered under warranty.
