A big myth in the knife world is that out there somewhere is a knife that seriously cuts but cannot rust.  

Knives claiming these super powers are usually made with steels that are unable to hold a cutting edge for any measurable amount of time.  

Finally a steel foundry in Japan, called Myodo Foundry, makes this myth a reality with the introduction of a new steel.
H1 steel is a PH steel, meaning it is a precipitation-hardened steel. Utilizing .1% nitrogen instead of carbon to harden the steel, it reaches a Rockwell hardness of 57-58HRC. Spyderco uses this stuff on its new C91 Pacific Salt model.  
  


It's PlainEdge or SpyderEdge and is similar in shape and size to Spyderco's best-selling Endura model but with a slightly more rounded tip.  

All internal steel parts are treated as well, making them impervious to rust and pitting and of course, salt.  

Those challenged by cleaning and maintaining their knives will find the Pacific Salt stays rust-free even if put away wet.  

The blade's hole is enlarged to 14mm for easier opening/closing with gloved, wet or cold hands.  

Textured in a checkerboard pattern, the yellow FRN handle has a grippy texture and is fitted with a reversible metal pocket clip which positions for right-handers and lefties.  

The addition of a lanyard hole offers a backup method of attachment (thong or lanyard cord) for use around water where once dropped, a knife is often lost or elusively hard to retrieve.

Reden van aanschaf; lichtgewicht en praktisch mes voor het kleinere werk tijdens meerdaagse kanotochten in het buitenland met bivak aan de oevers.
Geen zorgen om roestvorming.
Dit is mijn eerste mes van Spyderco.
Het eerste wat mij opviel is het geringe gewicht voor dit redelijk grote mes. 
Uiteraard was de beschrijving van het artikel duidelijk maar het product in handen hebben is anders.
De grip is zeker goed. het materiaal van het handvat (FRN) voelt en ziet er enigszins goedkoop uit,
maar informatie op internet geeft aan dat het ruim voldoende sterk is.
Het staal is niet heel hard en dat vind ik persoonlijk prettig, slijpen schijnt ook geen probleem te zijn.
Het mes is goed met een hand te openen. sluiten gaat ook prima, de back-lock houdt lemmet goed op zijn plaats en de rug van het heft is goed afgesloten.
Door het ronde gat in het lemmet is het mes makkelijk te openen, ook met een handschoen aan.
Het gevolg van dit gat, dat het lemmet breed maakt, is dat je niet in het mes kunt 'klimmen' voor fijn snijdwerk, zoals bij een lemmet dat doorloopt vanuit het handvat.
Het mes wordt zeer scherp geleverd. 
De constructie is goed, er is geen speling te voelen. 
De onderdelen zitten strak op elkaar, waardoor vuil weinig kans krijgt. De clip werkt voldoende en het is geen 'kledingkiller'. 
Het gat voor koord is nauw, paracord gaat er net aan doorheen, dus voldoende.
Design en afwerking; persoonlijk vind ik het mes er op een paar kleine puntjes naast zitten, 
bijvoorbeeld het hol geslepen deel van het lemmet had m.i. volledig in het heft moeten verdwijnen.
Het mes is behoorlijk breed. 
Daarentegen is het een functioneel stukje gereedschap en daar gaat het voornamelijk om.
Hoewel het nog maar kort in bezit is mijn indruk zeker positief. Kwaliteit/ prijsverhouding vind ik zeer gunstig.

De Pacific is een zeer mooi en functioneel mes een echte must voor vissers en verzamelaars, het ligt aangenaam in de hand en weegt bijna niets.

De ronde punt heeft als voordeel dat hij niet makkelijk zal afbreken bij wat zwaarder werk of het open snijden van je vers gevangen vis en in nood om kledij open te snijden.

Voor de rest was het mes goed scherp uit de doos en houd zijn snij prestatie voor een lange tijd voor je het terug moet slijpen.
