they are tight to slide, but with practice can be pryed off over the side. i have a wicked edge go. it seemed/ seems important to me to protect the working strop or stone faces from contamination. the whole system works very well. these covers do exactly what they are supposed to do very nicely: a little bit fiddley, but with these covers i can sensibly fit 2 or 3 more sets of 'plackets', i.e.2/3 sets of two, each having two grades
