The **ESEE Darien Machete** is a large machete, made in El Salvador. It is named after a Panamanian province where the last missing section of the Pan-American Highway should have been constructed. For multiple reasons this did not happen, but the inhospitable nature of this area was one of the main reasons it didn't. As such it is not that surprising that this machete was meant to be used in the jungle. But also when pruning blackberry bushes or for using in and around a bushcraft camp the Darien will be the perfect choice.

 While ESEE usually uses the famous 1095 carbon steel, this machete is made from 1075. A little tougher, to make sure the blade could become thinner and lighter. As such you can use the Darien Machete for 'slicing' tasks. But you can even use the Darien to cut through branches. Do, however, be careful with the carbon steel: like 1095, 1075 is not completely stainless. As such it will form a patina, and even rust if you are not careful enough. So clean it after use, and occasionally add a couple drops of oil.

 The handle is made from micarta. When you look at it critically you could say that the handle looks a little plain. And that is exactly what it is meant to look like! In reality you namely have a lot more grip over the machete with a handle like this. Sharp corners or finger grooves in the wrong places are namely not practical at all. Because of the rough texture of the micarta you have enough grip. Even while wearing gloves. It is also suited for different-sized hands. From small to large.

 The ESEE Darien Machete comes with a simple nylon sheath. It is enhanced with a belt loop to make sure you can hang it from your belt or backpack, and a press stud to make sure you don't lose it.

Impressionné par sa solidité et la qualité du tranchant.
Le seul point négatif, c'est l'étui particulièrement mal adapté. Il ne permet pas de maintenir le couteau en place. Ça représente un risque de coupure quand le couteau glisse hors de l'étui. (ça a été mon cas)
Mis à part ce point négatif, le couteau est vraiment très bien.

Machete viel iets kleiner uit dan verwacht. 
Handvat is ook een beetje dik voor mijn (kleinere) handen.
Kapt wel lekker.

La machete et parfaite - 
Mais déçu par l'étui et en particulier la boucle trop longue qui ne maintien pas en place parfaitement la machete.


Simple sheath but an overall great product

Realmente sorprendido con este machete. La forma del mango no me gustaba mucho en las fotos. Pero decidí comprarlo y no me arrepiento.

El mango es muy cómodo, te llena bien la mano y no notas torsión en la muñeca. Está muy afilado para ser un machete. El acabado de forja de la hoja es precioso, dándo un aspecto de envejecido y oxidado, junto a una Micarta que parece desgastada, muy llamativo. Buen machete ligero. Calidad precio de lo mejor qué tengo. ¡Lo recomiendo!
