Everything about the Japanese Higo pocket knife exudes tradition. In Japan, every single person, kids included, would carry one of these knives in their pockets on a daily basis. The samurai on the handle is another indication of the origin of this design. The Higo pocket knife was used for pencil sharpening and all kinds of other chores.   
  


The blade of this version is made of carbon steel. This type of steel can hold an extremely sharp edge and that is why they chose this material. This carbon steel core is layered between a softer type of steel, which improves is the strength of the blade. You can easily open the knife with the 'chikiri' (the lever at the end of the blade). As is traditional, this type of knife does not have a locking system en disappears entirely into the handle when closed.

Een meer basic mes dan dit ga je niet vinden. Behalve Opinel wellicht. Kwam scheer-scherp uit de doos. Dit mes heeft erg roestgevoelig staal (hoog carbon gehalte), dus enige zorg is nodig. Zelf heb ik het lemmet een paar uur in kokend heet azijn gezet zodat er meteen een beschermlaagje (patina) op komt. Het lemmet wordt dan meteen donkerkleurig en is hierdoor beter beschermd. Zoek bij YouTube maar op: "vinegar Patina on Carbon Steel blades". In het kort: aanrader als je een heel traditioneel zakmes zoekt. 

Excellent rapport qualité/prix. Couteau bien fini. Lame très tranchante. Je suis satisfait de mon achat
