After getting the worktop messy for so many years I finally took the plunge, yes you can make do without it but if you are going to sharpen knives then it's something that will improve your quality of life and will last a long time

Had to shorten the slide adjuster by 3 inches with a hacksaw but only as we have a small sink.
Does the job and is well made.
