The Autine Damascus Kurbads is a stunning outdoor knife that is made by hand in Latvia. The name Kurbads comes from a hero in an ancient Latvian folk tale. The Kurbads is perfect for your next hike or camping trip, but also as a hunting knife it can handle its own.
The blade is made from damascus steel. Forged from 240 layers of carbon steel and nickel steel. Breathtakingly beautiful, but also very functional. The blade is hardened up to 61-62HRC. And the heat treatment is something Autine is famous for. You can use amazing steel, but if it isn't hardened properly the entire knife is worthless. The damascus steel retains its sharpness well. Something you can expect from 62HRC. At the same time the blade is tough enough to not break or 'chip'. Not stainless, but that can easily be fixed with a couple drops of oil and a little TLC. With a blade thickness of only 2.3 mm this knife appears to be really thin. This benefits the cutting properties. This knife is simply amazing to use. It can be used to cut through many different materials. The edge is razor-sharp. Something Autine is famous for.
The handle of the Autine Kurbads is made from wenge. This is a dark type of wood with a very nice pattern. In terms of shape the handle is relatively narrow, but high enough to provide you with enough surface for your hand. The finger groove at the front of the handle ensures that your hand cannot go anywhere when you hold it. When you look at the handle from above you see the so-called Coke bottle shape. A wavy shape that resembles a coke bottle. Incredibly ergonomic and popular.
The Autine Kurbads comes in a leather sheath. It is relatively flexible and will take the shape of the knife after some time.
