The **Bark River Highland Special** is a nifty outdoor knife that offers excellent performance in several areas. When you go out hiking, camping or hunting and just want to take a lightweight knife with you, the Highland Special is a perfect choice. The flared handle offers a pleasant grip and the blade has a thick enough grind to excel at very precise tasks such as food preparation.



The blade is made from A2 tool steel, a strong steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).



The handle is made from micarta, which is a strong and lightweight material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold conditions.



The Bark River Highland Special comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it either upright (belt width up to 5.5 cm) or diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm).



Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same. Because each Bark River knife is produced by hand in select production runs, the delivery times can vary greatly. Sometimes it can take months or even over a year before a product is back in stock.
