The 112 Ranger is a solid, well made and built to last knife that will give the user confidence when using.
The lock back is extremely solid with no play ensuring no nasty accidental closure of the blade onto your fingers.
The blade really is super sharp from the box and will stay that way for months, even years of normal unabusive use. Look after your blade and it'll look after you, as my grandad taught me.
The blade is substantial for being only 3 inches in length. The handle is comfortable in my hand when using and has lovely smooth brass shoulders so no annoying pointy edges digging into your palm.
It's classy looking and will be a "friend" for life. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this for use around the house and garden following the good reviews i had heard about it, it was supplied from order in a few days and delivered by tracked courier. The knife itself is well made and im looking forward to owning it for a ling time, when it arrived the blade was very sharp , enough to cut paper, only slight disappointment happened today when i was shaving the end grain of a oak chair leg and the blade lost its edge which you could feel with finger nail as a snag when scraping across the blade edge. from previous reviews i thought it would be a long while before sharpening was required so does not meet all i expected of it

This item arrived quickly and the knife itself is excellent quality and razor sharp. It is quite heavy, but sits nicely in the hand, on the whole an extremely nice product and I would recommend this product.

Superb knife. Is well in hand, good weight.
Sat on delivery some light "wipe scratch" on the brass.
Have been in past Kato and it turned out that they have it all. This seems to be at delivery should be scratch-free.
The inlaid wood fits in well with the brass but inwardly it is slightly higher (sorry).
Despite some criticism still very satisfied.
Also have an Alpha Hunter (rosewood), also a winner.

Big brother '110', was my first buck. So I still have the old version of 440C steel with smooth lines. After about 35 years, despite gratefully like new. The 110 is quite big as a pocket knife to use without admonishing comments in the polder so I bought over the years, several smaller variants of Buck (the "55" and "500" series) and a 'Mako' Case, but the Buck 112 'forgot' I always.
I have now straightened.
The size is fine, the leather case indeed and I am very satisfied. It is a heavy knife, but there is a 112 variant with a "paper stone 'handle that much lighter, if the weight might be a concern.
The 112 arrived in good order, despite the disappointment with respect to the rest of the order (see Buck 119 Special).

For someone who likes to read reviews of outdoor products and knives in particular, it is difficult to be without prejudice to write about the Buck Ranger 112. This Buck knife, the smaller sister of the legendary 'Folding Hunter 110, is a piece a true classic. The Buck 110 was at its launch in 1964, the first pocket knife with a locking mechanism that is strong and reliable enough to be. Employed as a full hunting As such, the knife was so successful that Buck subsequently brought, including the 112. Variants on the market in the years

About 15 million copies of the Buck 110 have been produced since 1964, and (presumably) a multiple copies of other knife manufacturers. If you buy a Buck 110 or 112, you not only a knife but also a piece of tradition to purchase, which is still enhanced by the "Welcome aboard. You are now part of a very large family 'message of the Buck family in the little piece of paper that accompanies the knife.

I must admit that I like more of chromium and nickel over copper and brass, and that I prefer a drop point compared with a clip point. Nevertheless, I find the Buck Knife 112 stunning timeless beauty. If the knife out of the box a few things stand out. Firstly, the weight, the knife is heavy in relation to its size. This is, of course, due to the large amount of steel and copper that has been processed. Knife in this 160 grams I think it's a great weight, as well as to wear to use. The balance is excellent, the knife is very solid in your hand and has absolutely no tendency to tilt forward.

The second thing to notice is the finish. The way to connect steel, copper and wood together is impressive, especially when you take into consideration that this knife in the Netherlands cost around 65 euros. To finish the level does not fall for my Fällkniven PXL ivory micarta, although that is obviously a knife with a whole different look, but more than four times as expensive!

Finally, I am surprised by the smooth finish of the product. Both the buyer and wood are shiny and smooth finish and the seamless transitions between the various materials is the knife smooth. Because of the shape of the knife, however, is very reliable in the hand. The finger guard provides great support to the index finger and the thumb on top of the blade creates a solid grip. For my hands, the Ranger fine dimensions, like all my fingers easily one spot. I am very pleased with how this knife in the hand, the simplicity, the lack of a pocket clip, grooves or other type of structure addresses this outstanding value. For precision work, I place my finger just past the finger guard so that it falls into the space between the finger guard and the widest part of the blade. With your index finger more on the hand than on the blade pressing, this provides a reasonably comfortable grip, which is certainly an advantage is that the buyer is completed. Tidy everywhere

Buck used a long time 420HC steel for its knives. This fine round steel gets an extra buck by heat treatment which makes it harder. 420HC allows relatively easy to sharpen on a whetstone and a fine steel to grind during extended camping trips in the field. The blade is a clip point with a total length of 76 mm. The effective length of the cut is 69 mm. This length corresponds in practice fine for cutting rope, paper, small twigs and peeling an apple on the way. The blade is made to cut, not to pry, stabbing or cutting. Due to the point shape is the clip point of the blade thin and relatively fragile. Do not use the 112 to run for a stuck screw

Opening and closing the knife takes some getting used to if you're used to with thumb studs knives. For the 112, you need two hands. The blade is securely held in place in the closed position by a spring, but there is not much force is required to open the knife. The steel is a groove for your nail made, but I find it more convenient to take. The blade between thumb and forefinger With some effort, the knife open with one hand, but here it is clearly not designed for and expect quite dangerous condition. In the open position, the blade is securely locked. By pressing the lock back knife can be folded when the blade is open for approx 45 degrees, feel how the spring pulls the blade inside. All in all it feels both opening and closing very solid, predictable and without play.

The Ranger comes in a black leather case, "Made in Mexico", in contrast to the knife is made in the USA. The leather smells great (if you like it) and is still stiff when it comes out of the box, but it is smoother operation.

The Buck Ranger 112 also includes a version with holes for the fingers in the handle, the 112FG (finger grooves).

After having read a few reviews already meets this "Buck" exactly to expectations.
A solid sound folder. Had the intention to order the 110 but in retrospect, I am glad to have taken. 112
For the pocket, the 110 is just too big.
