This Edge Pro grain 80 diamond sharpening stone from the Matrix collection has a top-layer made from diamond, with grain size 80. This makes the extremely coarse sharpening stone perfect to profile and sharpen very hard types of (powder)steel. With this Edge Pro sharpening stone you can even sharpen ceramic knives. You use this sharpening stone in combination with water. Clean the stone after use with lather or alcohol.
Wear resistant stones: lapping is unnecessaryThe advantage of diamond sharpening stones is that they don't become hollow after use. As such you don't have to lap them. If you do wish to lap them use 60 grain silicon carbide sandpaper with a little bit of water on a flat surface.
Compared to whetstones sharpening on diamond stones is really fast. Please note: the hard material does not ask for a rough treatment. It is not necessary to apply excessive force. It could really affect your knife.
Sharpening diamond sharpening stones
It is important to know that diamond sharpening stones need to be 'sharpened'. At first they will have a rather aggressive effect. After sharpening five or 10 times a diamond stone will work best!
