The **Medford Praetorian** is the most famous pocket knife made by Medford Knives. Large, robust and incredibly solid: the Praetorian is it all. 100% made in the USA, with American materials, in a company owned by an American veteran.


The Medford Praetorian is gigantic. The large D2-steel blade has a hollow grind applied by hand. This is unique feature: there are practically no manufacturers who apply a hollow grind by hand. You can use the royal thumb groove to easily open the knife. It might, however, require some practice at first. When opened the solid frame lock firmly keeps the blade in place. Medford has pushed the stop-pin inside the blade. As such it symmetrically falls against the handle making it additionally solid.


D2 is a type of tool steel that needs maintenance and oil. Some budget knives use D2 as a cheap option by using a rudimentary heat treatment. Medford, however, used D2 to its full extent and turned it into a top-quality type of steel with excellent qualities. So, definitely not a budget option!


This Medford edition has been enhanced with a blue anodized titanium handle. The hardware (screws and pocket clip) have been given a unique pattern with the help of a torch. At the end of the handle you will find a glass breaker. The blade has been enhanced with a black PVD-coating.


Each Medford knife is made by hand by talented knife makers. As such each knife has individual differences, making them unique. It takes approximately a year for Medford to ship their knives. Knives that are available on our website are in stock and can immediately be shipped. However, be in time: it might take a while for the new stock to arrive!

Greg has upped his game. The lock on this Praetorian doesn’t routinely fail at the cost of some lock stick. I love the aesthetic and design. My warranty with Medford will be knackered though as I had to reattach the pivot screw to the knife with Loctite as it dropped out within a week. Good knife, over priced, with quality issues and a useless warranty. Caveat emptor.
