Traditional Solingen Windmill knife. This knife is regarded as the superior deluxe version of the renowned Lignum 3, another top-quality knife by Robert Herder. This superb kitchen knife is handcrafted by Rudolf Broch, the master knife maker. His traditional expertise and workmanship guarantee that this kitchen knife is crafted using techniques that have almost become obsolete. The blade is made of carbonic steel with a percentage of 1.1 carbon. The blade is therefore not stainless steel and must be maintained and protected with special care. This means that this knife needs to be cleaned well and dried thoroughly after each use. Its thinly ground blade has a hardness rating of 60-61 HRC. The blade is polished blue in the traditional way, which is something that is only done to top-of-the-range knives of outstanding quality. All this special treatment and processing does result in a knife that can in fact become rusty, but which is particularly sharp and which sharpens itself as it were during usage. All you have to do to ensure that your knife remains razor-sharp for life is to use a sharpening steel from time to time.

The handle is manufactured from walnut and is fastened by brass rivets. The wooden handle also requires more care and maintenance than a plastic handle does. It is recommended that you rub some (linseed) oil on the handle from time to time to protect it well. This also helps the handle to retain its beautiful natural colour.

All in all, this is no ordinary knife. Give this knife the care it deserves and you will enjoy many years of service from the best knife you could ever wish for.

Under no circumstances should a knife of this excellent calibre be cleaned in the dishwasher, nor, for that matter, any other good, high-quality knives.

This knife comes equipped with a leather sheath and a bottle of oil for maintaining the handle.

This knife cannot be etched since it is manufactured from high-carbon steel. The result does not meet our requirements.

Robert Herder knives are largely hand-made, which may cause for a longer delivery time. This can also mean that the delivery time on our website can be subject to change. When the knife is ‘in stock’ we have received it from the factory and can ship it out to you.

This knife is suitable as a gift for a passionate collector. I gave it to my wife and myself.

It is supplied oil with a fine leather and a vial. The box is also a description. This is done carelessly. Would fit better handmade paper and the signatures of Master Broch and Fehrekampf.

It is next to a K1 the sharpest knife in our possession. Probably it is the most used knife in our kitchen. Buying decision was not the utility, but the contribution to the survival of this ancient craftsmanship.

Who applying less idealism and still very sharp and finely machined diameter want get for the same price a K1, K3 and K5 together. That would be the sensible decision.

The price-performance ratio can not believe rationally. I make a decision and draw feeling for the cheap description of a point from the highest grade.

Besides a wonderful tool, this knife is also an ode to the old, dying craft traditions of the city of Solingen. It gives you something unique in hands, because it is hand forged by one of the last old masters in the box, Rudolf Broch.

The blade is razor sharp and beautifully finished. It is not heavy and feels great in the hand. Despite the relatively short blade, the knife is almost everywhere to use. Excellent for Especially if you cut a lot of fruit is perfect.

The high price is a shock, but I've had no regrets about the purchase. I have the knife now six weeks in the house and every time I work with it's party time!

Ih have been several knives from Herder and terms of sharpness meets the expectations that I used to. The knife feels solid, a nice handle, and is not too heavy nor too light in the hand. The blade had something I liked more. A tip to avoid the knife is black, put a wet towel and wipe or something beside you whenever you have cut off the blade on the wet cloth. This gives the acid a chance to work on the steel. However, there is one criticism, the tip of the blade deviates about 1.5 to 2mm off ie it is not quite right. Now I do not know whether that comes with using forged or that it should not. Does anyone have a sugestie?
