The **ESEE Model 4** is one of the most popular survival knives. This ESEE Model 4HM is a modified version of the classic. The blade is the same, but the handle is changed considerably. At the request of bushcrafters and hunters the grip is rounded more. They have also removed the finger groove. This makes the knife better suited for precise work.




The blade of the ESEE 4HM is made of the well-known 1095 carbon steel. A non-stainless type of steel. Fortunately, the blade is protected by an extremely durable powder coating. Which makes sure you can enjoy the knife for a lifetime. The full-tang blade is surrounded by a micarta handle. The grip feels a little rough, which enhances grip and comfort. The ESEE 4HM is big enough to get your hands around without getting too big. 



The ESEE Model 4HM comes with a black leather sheath.

Nach ESEE 4, RAT 5, ESEE 6 und 6HM kann ich tatsächlich mit Begeisterung sagen, dass dieses Werkzeug sich sehr gut in der allgemeinen Praxis schlägt. Ob Küche, Holz, Outdoor oder EDC. gute Klingenlänge. Reicht. Dabei nutze ich am liebsten 13 -14cm Klingen. Aber hier reicht es. Sehr gutes Verhältnis von Handlage bei diesem Griff und Schneidkante. Ein kleines Camp Knife eben. Der Anschliff hier passt zu der Stahlhärte und Sorte. Gut ausgewogen. Beim 6HM musste ich den Anschliff höher setzen und konvex schleifen, damit es "flüssiger" durchs Schnittgut gleitet aber stabil genug bleibt. Hier ist es von Haus aus etwas gelungener. 
Beim Holzschnitzen lässt sich der Griff ausreichend greifen. (Handgröße 9,5) Man kann genug  Kraft direkt übertragen. Aber klein genug (Griffumfang an der Klinge) um es noch bequem für filigrane Arbeiten greifen zu können.  Feathersticks lassen sich subjektiv einfach schnitzen. Der Griff ist haptisch angenehm rauh  und dadurch rutscht auch bei Nässe nichts. 
Einmal einen Holzscheit in mehrere Stücke spalten und die Klingen Beschichtung hat sofort derbe Spuren. Ist so  bei diesem Material. Firesteelnutzung mit Klingenrücken geht gar nicht. Eben wegen der Beschichtung. Aber meinen Firesteel trage ich inzwischen immer am Victorinox-Holster. Hier übernimmt diese Arbeit der Sägerücken des praktischen Schweizers 
Einfache, gute Lederscheide in Holsterform. Ist mir lieber als Kydex. 
Bushcraft? - Ja! 
EDC? -Sicher! 
42a? -Passt. 
Camp-Küche? -Gut und ausreichend. 
Und die Lebenslange Garantie ist schon was feines. Auch wenn Mann diese bei kluger und gekonnter Handhabung des Messers wohl nie in Anspruch nehmen wird. In meinen Augen ein sichere Kaufempfehlung. Und ich war nie wirklich Fan von ESEE oder RAT Messern. 😉
