Lansky Diamond Deluxe

Contents

  • Clamp
  • Four guide rods
  • Four diamond stones: grit size 70, 120, 280 en 600
  • Honing oil
How to sharpen with the system There are two ways to sharpen with the Lansky system:
  • Place the knife in a vice
  • Hold the clamp in your hand
Angle it can be set to Four angles: 17, 20, 25 and 30 degree angles
Maximum reach of the stones 40 centimeters, 20 centimeters on each side
Choice of material Diamond stones, Synthetic grips, clamp
Placement of the knife Placement is a bit difficult when you want to work keeping it in your hand. The knife also gives a little when being held in a clamp.
Quickest sharpening system For each side of the blade it took us about 10-15 minutes. In just about half an hour we were able to sharpen the knife. Because the knife is placed sideways it is easy to slip out with the sharpening stones.
Results A very sharp knife. It easily withstood the paper test. With even finer guide rods the knife will probably become razor sharp.

Conclusion: usability is king

Both the Lansky Diamond Deluxe Sharpening system as the Wicked Edge sharpening system are easy to use, even for beginners. The manuals help understanding the systems better. One of the most important differences is that the Wicked Edge is more stable. The knife is held steadily by the clamp and the guide rods stay put better. The Lansky-systeem gives a little which sometimes causes you to slip out with the sharpening stones.

The result with both systems is excellent. If you are looking for a more user-friendly system you should go for the Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener.
