Why choose Schuil?

In addition to their many years of experience and long-standing reputation, it is also good to know that Schuil folding rulers are manufactured in accordance with EC calibration standard class II, a potentially important designation if you need accuracy in your work. It is important to note that folding rulers as a category are not generally officially calibrated measuring instruments, but Schuil does manufacture them in accordance with the applicable European production standards. This makes the folding rulers suitable for both professional use in construction, woodworking, and industrial work, as well as for the passionate hobbyist.

When you choose a Schuil folding ruler, you are choosing a product with a rich history of craftsmanship that is expertly manufactured. Schuil combines traditional craftsmanship with modernised production, thereby supplying folding rulers that are still considered among the best on the market today.

History of Schuil

The story of Schuil began in 1938, when the Schuil family produced the first handmade wooden folding rulers. What began as artisanal production in a small workshop quickly grew into a fully-fledged factory. Around 1948, the company relocated to Drachten, where it continues to manufacture folding rulers to this day.

As a family business, Schuil has never abandoned its traditional working methods: the majority of components are still manufactured in-house. Over the years, Schuil has developed from a local producer into an international player. From its factory in Drachten, Schuil currently supplies wholesalers within the Netherlands, but has also been exporting for decades to countries such as Germany, England, Belgium, the United States and New Zealand. Despite this international market, Schuil deliberately remains small-scale: a relatively small group of skilled craftsmen ensures that every folding ruler meets the quality standards for which the brand is known.
