The Bark River Mini Kalahari is a stunning hunting knife, designed for small to average-sized game. This is the small version of the larger Kalahari Hunter. The handle is ergonomically shaped and, as such, perfect for long-term use. The blade is enhanced with quite the belly. Great when gutting game: it means you can never unintentionally damage something. The spine of the tip is enhanced with a false edge, a so-called swedge. As such the blade shape might remind you of a classic clippoint. The Mini Kalahari is a hunting knife that will feel at home in any hunting field.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel. A strong type of steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by stropping it.
The handle is made from Macassar Ebony. This specific version is named after the Macassar Harbour in Indonesia. This is where most of all Macassar Ebony comes from. This type of wood is very hard, has a dense structure and contains a wonderful pattern. You can truly see the grains. A fancy type of wood for a luxurious look and feel.
The Bark River Mini Kalahari comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it both straight (belt width up to 5.5 cm) and diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm).
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
