The **DMT DiaSharp 8x3 extra coarse/fine** is a double-sided diamond sharpening stone. Diamond-coated sharpening stones quickly remove material and, depending on the grain size, sharpen your knives to razor-sharpness. This DMT DiaSharp Bench Stone is quite large in size, which makes it suitable for all types of knives, including large kitchen knives. The advantage of diamond sharpening stones is that they don't have to be lapped. For this DiaSharp stone, the diamond particles were added to a 9 mm thick steel sheet. As such, the flatness of this sharpening stone is guaranteed.

## Information about the grain sizes of DMT sharpening stones.

The grain size of a diamond-coated stone and a water stone cannot easily be compared. This is because the construction and materials used are substantially different. With a water stone, the abrasive grits are incorporated in the stone. These grains also come loose from the stone during use and become a sort of sharpening paste. With a diamond-coated stone, the diamonds are secured in the surface of the stone. As a result, this type of sharpening stone is more efficient.

## How to use DMT DiaSharp

You can use the DMT sharpening stones with or without water. The advantage of sharpening with water is that the stone is lubricated and the sharpening residue is removed. Never use oil, always water. Furthermore, it is good to know that a new diamond sharpening stone removes quite a lot of material. Only after 5 to 10 knives does the stone have its final, intended effect.

**Please note:**don't put too much pressure on your knives as you're sharpening! This can damage the stone. Allow the diamond particles to do their job.
