A fine sharpening stone that is great if you are looking for razor-sharp results. But it is also great when sharpening straight razors. The stone can be used with almost all types of knives. This is more of a polishing stone rather than a sharpening stone. Having used a 1000 and 2000 shapton first to get the edge right, I then used the 5000 grit to finish off the edge. The feel of the stone is very smooth and responsive, making a mirror edge is short time. I did purchase the 8000 grit stone as well, but to be honest, the 5000 left my knives like razors and would have been sufficient.
