The Experience Center covers more than 350 m² and is packed with all the Knivesandtools gear you know and love. From EDC pocket knives to axes and kitchen knives, from flashlights to sharpening tools. Forget static displays, everything is ready for you to test out.

The thing that makes our Experience Center unique is that you can explore both the products and the brands behind them. Discover what makes a Fenix torch unique, experience the craftsmanship of an Eden kitchen knife, or compare the sharpening systems of Wicked Edge and Work Sharp. At our Experience Center, you will gain insight into the passion and quality behind each brand.

Whether you're a cooking aficionado, an outdoor fan, collector or someone looking for tactical gear; here, you can try out all products. Test torches in a specially designed dark room, compare sharpening systems, EDC pocket knives and multi-tools, check the sharpness of your pocket knife, or discover which axe suits you best in our axe-testing cage.

The Experience Center has a tough, robust design with a touch of nature, perfectly matching its location in the Veluwe in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Parking is free, and you can walk right in. Everything is ready to be discovered. What are you waiting for? Come by and discover it for yourself!

## The perfect grip


The ergonomic grip is made out of high-quality plastic. The metal end of the handle is new in the Four Star II series. It has the laser-engraved Zwilling logo. This gives the knife a luxurious look. It also makes sure, along with the bolster, that the knife is completely in balance.

Fontenille Pataud's 'Le Saint-Bernard' series owes its name to the St Bernard pass and, by extension, a hospice of the same name and, of course, the St Bernard dog. With the Zwilling Four Star II, the success of the previously released Four Star series continues, with some subtle enhancements. The blade is made of the same metal, and sharpened with laser precision. This is also what makes the knives in the Four Star II series razor-sharp. The handle is made of high quality plastic and has the same shape as the Four Star series. It feels great in hand thanks to its round shape. What's new in this series is the metal cap at the end of the handle. The back of the handle has a laser engraved Zwilling logo. This means that the steel of the blade extends all the way to the end of the handle. As such, the whole is not only rock solid, it also provides you with optimal balance.

### Wash #4:


After a couple washes we were beginning to see some rust on the engravings of the Böker Tech-tool. The deterioration of the aluminium parts continue with every wash. The aluminium parts on the Victorinox Classic and Swiza pocket knives also become duller.


### Wash #10:


The pocket knives have been exposed to the dishwasher for a week and it is time to look at some of the results. When you compare the knives from the dishwasher with new knives you will see discolouration’s on each knife. The Swiza pocket knife with the red handle comes out of the test best. The Victorinox Classic and Böker Tech-tool both became duller. But it is not that striking when  you have nothing to compare them to.


### Wash #15: Mustard


Whoops! The knives were exposed to mustard for an entire night before their wash. They were definitely put to the test. The pocket knives did really well. You can, however, clearly spot erosion on the Böker Tech-tool glass breaker.

## Who is knife maker Jerry Brouwer?


Jerry Brouwer has been popular in the Dutch knife world for years. His Japanese inspired fixed knives and his cool pocket knives are still the highlight of the collection according to many collectors. 


Brouwer is mostly known as someone who doesn’t settle for less. He is always looking for the best types of steel. And not only the steel needs to be perfect, the heat treatment should be as well. He even prefers having his knives hardened in the United States. Simply because he believes that there he will get the best results. His need to always look for quality is what characterizes his work.


At forums and in the knife community Brouwer is known under his alias Halloween. It is his logo and for that reason it is also engraved on the side of the blade.

New: the Spyderco Brouwer C232GTIP, designed by Jerry Brouwer

The P30i is a lot bigger than its predecessors, and this is largely due to the head of the light being a lot deeper as well as having a larger diameter. The proportions are right and the light exudes something impressive with that big head and deep reflector. The light has a nice matt-black design, and the quality and finish are also good: no sharp edges, laser engraving neatly aligned and the light source sits neatly in the centre of the reflector. A raised surface on the head of the light(which contains the mode switch) keeps it from rolling away. The variation in structure and texture makes for a good grip; the included clip (which can be mounted facing up or down) is slightly on the small side. The back of the light is enhanced with a rubber clicky that serves as the main switch with the usb-c port next to it for charging the flashlight or attaching the remote control. The little rubber that covers the usb-c port comes off quite easily and has a somewhat cheap appearance. For me, the head is the most impressive part of the P30i with its smooth and deep reflector and the powerful XHP35 HI LED. The inside of the flashlight looks good, the threads are nicely greased and run smoothly.

The PD36R Pro feels like an old friend, as it's very clearly a Fenix product. It's a little thicker than the first version, the PD36R. This is mainly because the 21700 battery is a size larger than the PD36R's 18650. The flashlight has a solid feel to it, and the finish is truly astounding: the light source is neatly centred, the engraving is nicely aligned as well, and there are no blemishes in the 'paint' (or the anodisation). The lines of the design are almost identical to the PD36R, which is understandable, as there is not much to improve from the original well-thought-out design. When you look at the PD36R and PD36R Pro side by side, three differences immediately stand out: the mode button has moved to the back on the PD36R Pro, and the PD36R Pro's rubber mode switch no longer has a built-in battery indicator; it is now placed inside the head of the light. The third difference is the light source: the Luminus SST-40 LED has given way to a more powerful LED, a Luminus SFT-70. If you look closely, you can see that this LED consists of four segments and that it's missing a lens, which makes it flat. Because the switch on the back sticks out on the Pro version too, none of the 36-series versions can stand on their tail end. The carrying clip remains unchanged, but it's long and strong enough to hold the flashlight securely in place. You can easily make the loop of the lanyard bigger or smaller, so it will fit any wrist. It's easy to open up the flashlight; I often advise people to grease the screw threads regularly to prolong their lifespan. The inside of the flashlight also looks alright, a sturdy spring in the end cap cushions any shocks. 

All in all, I'm very pleased with this first look at the PD36R Pro; I really have nothing to complain about in terms of build quality and finish.

## What is sabering?
When you sabre a bottle of champagne, you remove the top part of the bottle (including cork). Because there is a lot of pressure on the bottle, this piece shoots off.The force is so high that no glass splinters end up in your drink. 

One key condition when sabering a bottle of champagne, is that there is enough pressure inside the bottle. For a bottle of champagne this is 6 bar. The cork really pops when you knock it off. Because a bottle of prosecco only has 3 bar in terms of pressure, it is not suitable for sabering. A bottle of Cava does have enough pressure built up inside the bottle. But let's be frank here, sabering is most impressive if you use a bottle of champagne.

You use a champagne sabre to sabre a bottle. There are different models available on the market today. There are small, practical sabres you can easily carry with you. But more often a champagne sabre is an impressive 'sword' that is meant to stand out. Many people hang the sabre from the wall or place it somewhere as a decorative piece when it is not used. Because the edge is not sharpened, the sabre is not dangerous.

How-to sabering

Pelton’s foldable knives are often enhanced with a cut-out that can be used as a bottle opener. Cheers! At the same time you can, while using this ‘wave’-style opener, remove the blade from your pocket with a single move, immediately opening the knife. Pelton attaches his pocket clips with one screw enhanced with a tungsten carbide glass breaker. Great for breaking glass, but also for engraving hard materials. Adding your name into your gear will be a piece of cake.

Pelton mostly has his knives produced by Lionsteel in Italy. One of the most leading pocket knife manufacturers in the world and masters when it comes to milling. The details and multi-functional purposes designed by Pelton are not that easy to produce. Fortunately the price winning production facilities at Lionsteel have his back. Together they are a force to be reckoned with.


One of the most remarkable knives is the Aculus. A gentleman’s knife, but so sturdy it can handle quite a lot. For the real gentleman out there. One who is prepared for anything. One piece of titanium as the basis for the handle, milled out to store a blade. A ground-breaking design which, in Europe, can be purchased as the LionSteel TiSpine.


The Canadian Robert Young Pelton is known amongst friend and foe for his journeys to the most dodgy places on earth – and his gift for survival. He visited over 100 countries and made reports of dozens of hotbeds throughout the world, from Chechnya to Iraq, from Asia to South-America to the Horn of Africa. With this piece we will try to give you a sneak peek into the life story of a man who, in high school, after an aptitude test was told he was basically only good for three things: advertising, or become an astronaut or adventurer… Was it a prophecy or simply inspiring? All we know for sure is that Robert Young Pelton can only be called an ‘astronaut on earth’. And let’s be honest doesn’t that say enough already?


## Robert Young Pelton’s younger years


Pelton was born in Edmonton, Canada. Early on he became interested in ‘that what reached beyond the horizon’, which is exactly why, as a child, Pelton often saw the back of a police car as he was driven home yet again. At sixteen he finished school and bought a pink station wagon he called home. He picked fruit to make ends meet and when people asked him what he was up to he simply said ‘I’m traveling’. When he started realizing that he needed to make his money doing at least something he started his career in marketing. He became so successful that, at thirty-one, he could call himself a millionaire.
