CR123A batteries (also called CR123 or 123A) are perfect for smaller flashlights that work with these batteries, but mostly come in handy for incidental use. Think of a camera when on holiday or a flashlight for emergencies.

## Rechargeable CR123 batteries

In addition to the regular CR123A batteries there are also rechargeable versions. These are known as RCR123A, RCR123 and 16340\. For years these batteries were not a part of our range because of the maximum amount of power they supply you with. It is namely not enough for modern lights. In addition, some of the models available did not list the origin of the cells.

In the meantime, however, Fenix introduced some very reliable 16340 batteries. The capacity of these 16340 batteries is lower than a non-rechargeable CR123A, but the voltage supplied is higher. This means that, in some lights, the light output is also higher. Please note: if you want to use this type of battery, do check beforehand if your device can handle this type of battery. Not every device can handle the additional voltage, which could lead to damage. Something you, of course, want to prevent.

## Do you prefer a larger battery in your flashlight?

Many flashlights work with 18650 batteries. These are approx. the same size as two CR123 batteries, but contain much more energy than two rechargeable CR123A batteries. Can your flashlight handle a 18650 battery and do you use your light on a daily basis? If so, a [18650 battery](/en/ct/18650-lithium-ion-accumulators-and-loaders.htm) is a great alternative.

CR123A batteries are relatively compact, non-rechargeable lithium batteries. The main advantage of this type of battery is that it stays in great shape for a long time. This also means you can stock up on them to make sure you always have a spare.
