The ESEE Cleaver CL1 is a large cleaver, based on a butcher's cleaver. Large, heavy and very cool. Everyone who hold the Cleaver will immediately smile. This model was designed by Expat. One of the forum members on the ESEE Forum. It was designed as a heavy duty tool. Perfect when gutting a deer, chopping it into pieces and cutting firewood for the fire you wish to roast your deer over. At the front of the blade you will find a cut-out in the shape of the state Idaho, USA. That is where this cleaver is from.
The blade is made from 1095-carbon steel. Rock-solid and tough. Perfect for the more demanding tasks and easy to sharpen afterwards. With a blade thickness of 4.7 mm and rather large appearance the Cleaver is not a light-weight knife: it weighs 740 grams no less.
The blade is enhanced with a flat grind at (approximately) the bottom 1/3 part of the blade. Towards the front the cutting edge is rounded. Perfect for rock-chopping. That is the rocking movement you have seen before in the kitchen. As such you can also use this knife to gut game. Perhaps a little too big, but as an all-round outdoor tool this knife can do it all. ESEE enhanced the blade with a coarse blackwashed finish.
The handle is made from black G10. Due to its royal size there are many ways of holding the handle. At the back for the more demanding chopping tasks to halfway on the blade as if you are holding a santoku.
The ESEE CL1 Cleaver comes with a robust black leather sheath. Made in the United States.
