Cold Steel Leatherneck knives

Leatherneck is the nickname of the United States Marines, and that is where the name of this series comes from. Cold Steel makes tactical fixed knives in this range, all with the same formula: D2 steel, a handle you will not let go of, and a sheath you can carry on the left or right. From a handy work knife to a bowie that leaves you speechless.

What the Leatherneck knives have in common

The steel is D2, a tool steel that stays sharp for a long time and can take a lot of impact. It is not stainless, and that is a deliberate trade-off: in return you get cutting performance, but you do need to store the knife dry and oil it now and then. Cold Steel applies a coating that protects the steel and also takes away reflections.

The handle is made of Kray-Ex, moulded over the tang. It gives grip with wet, dirty or cold hands and absorbs vibrations from heavy impacts. Between the handle and blade is a steel fingerguard, so your hand cannot slip forward when the tip gets stuck in something.

Each knife comes with a Secure-Ex sheath that clicks shut audibly. With a Phillips screwdriver you can switch it for left-handed carry, so you do not need to order anything extra.

Within the series, the difference is in the tip. There is a clip point for general work, a drop point with a stronger tip, and a tanto made to go through things. At the top sits the Leatherneck Bowie, much larger and heavier than the rest. If you are looking for a fixed knife from Cold Steel in a more manageable size, then have a look at the Cold Steel SRK.
